We're in TEXAS!!!!

We made it to Killeen, Texas around 7PM on Saturday night. The last leg of the trip from Dallas to Killeen was beautiful. The sun was shining...as it had been raining for the two days prior to this it was a nice change. The kids were in a good mood and the speed limit is 75 in places! But lets start from the beginning.

Friday morning started with none other than car trouble. For the first time ever our trusty Prius decided it didn't want to start. Luckily it was only a dead battery so since Jake's brother Jer and his wife Sarah were there we could actually jump start it. Well, after 25 minutes of reading how to jump start a hybrid. I felt so stupid. : ) So we got off to a rocky start but things went well from there. Jake and I went on post and signed me out on leave while Jer and Sarah stayed home with the kids. Then Jake and I picked up our rental truck and went to the weigh station and got both the car and truck weighed empty. Just to see how much one family's junk really weighs. Not really, the military wants that info not us.

THE packing of the truck only took a few hours thanks to our many moves we had decided it would be better to put all the boxes we had packed over the past few weeks in the garage and so the truck filled up quickly and easily. Jer and Jake loaded the furniture while I cleaned up after them and Sarah thankfully distracted the two rug rats. We were on our way to re-weigh the vehicles by 1pm. Just an hour shy of my original planned time of departure. Not bad considering the morning's car trouble. We had a wonderful lunch at the BBQ place down the road and then we were off. We made it as far as Tulsa OK the first night. There we stopped at a Motel 8 (really great place for being a cheap hotel). WHile checking in THor managed to pull the fire alarm and it went off for the next three hours. For some reason they couldn't figure out how to shut it off. Woops. We woke up to some Texas shaped waffles for breakfast before getting back on the road.

WE stopped for a late lunch just over the Texas state line. The kids were champs in the car. Never really complaining and I have to say that is pretty awesome considering when we got to the city limits of Killleen I wanted to say "are we there yet?"

Now we are living in the Townplace suites by Marriott for the next week until we get a place. The housing office told us this morning that it will be 60 - 90 days until we get a place on post. So we decided to put our things in storage and live in a furnished apartment until we get a place. Since the army is footing the bill for storage and the truck and all we decided we didnt' want to unpack and repack another time. Its not what we were hoping for but in 60-90 days life will be prerfect. Or as perfect as it can get.

THe town of Killeen is the opposite of St Robert. We have every imaginable store/restraunt and it even has a mall. Post is amazingly intimidating since it is about 10 times the size of ft lost in the woods. We are pretty happy to be here - we'll post picutures later. Sorry for any punctuation errors, etc. I am typing this on my phone. : )
